Many people have quite a few differing ideas about how the taxi industry works, or in some cases should work, we hope that in this section of our website, we can answer some of those queries & questions....

All of the drivers that work for Mercury Taxis are self-employed and as such are all sub-contracting to us for the work we provide to each and everyone of them by taking our customers bookings. Subsequently all of the fare that you are then charged by our drivers goes direct to the driver and not to the company. Each driver then in turn pays us, Mercury Taxis, a radio rent for supplying him with work and their radio equipment. And it's as simple as that, nothing more nothing less.

Our fares are based on a price list which, once again, is a simple one but our basic charges at the moment are £3-80 for the 1st mile and then £1-30 for every mile thereafter. So, for example a journey of two miles will be charged at £5-10 and a two and half mile journey will then cost £5-75. Our fares and prices guide will hopefully solve any queries you have on this matter.

All bookings can be made either in advance or for immediate despatch, however this does not guarantee that your vehicle will arrive on time. Of course we will make every possible effort to try and ensure that our driver will turn up shortly before your booking time and we do actually cover over 95% of our bookings on time. However we are not perfect, and we do not claim to be, but you can rest assured that we will always be trying our utmost to give you the best possible service we can and with over 340 vehilces at our disposal then we have a better chance than most of giving you that almost perfect service.

Our charges are always the same no matter what time of day or night it is, even past midnight and through till the early hours, our rates don't change, except at Christmas and New Year. Fares only increase by £2 on 5 days throughout the year - after 6pm on Christmas Eve, all day Christmas Day & Boxing Day and then from New Years Eve at 6pm till 6am on the 2nd January. There are no extra charges made on bank holidays or on any other days.

We always give early morning train and coach station bookings a priority service but we do ask you to try and give us one hours 'lead time' on all such bookings to allow us sufficeint time to get you to the train station. It is not imperative that you give us this 'one hour' lead time but we cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever if you don't and you then miss your train.

So long as you give us your telephone number, either a landline or a mobile, then we can give you our callback service to the number of your choice shortly before our vehicle arrives at your pick up point. This then notifies you that our vehicle is outside ready & waiting to take to your destination. This is a free service.

We supply taxis for not only local work but also out of town work. So whether it be the corner shop, a trip into town or a journey to the airport then we can cater for any such transport needs. We can quote for any such journey that you require and payment can either be made in cash to the driver or you can pre-pay by credit card during office hours.
